During this summer I´m going to carry out a little experiment with Instagram followers. I´m going to try different strategies for this.

Do you follow any specific strategies? Do you have any tips for increasing followers? Feel free to share and discuss! When I’m done with this “experiment” I’ll share my experiences and learnings. :)

Thanks..

Post consistently and view stories of people as much as you can. Also follow more people and try to interact with them. Your account will automatically start appearing on new user search feed and you will start getting followers.

Hi I am also new to Social Media Marketing, a client wants me to increase their followers, but no matter how many times I scheduled a post no one ever clicked, reacted, or even shared her posts. Their FB, Instagram was set up 8 years ago, and I'm having a hard time managing it because it is so outdated, and it was like I'm creating a new brand for them.

The best strategies to increase Instagram followers are posting consistent Reels, using strong hooks in the first few seconds, engaging with your niche audience daily, and creating content people want to save and share. Stories and collaborations also help keep your account visible.

When I started creating my content with only one type rather than just putting up everything at random, I found that my account began growing. People are very interested in following you when they actually know what they can expect from your page.
A minor tip that is worked for me is looking at the insights every 2 weeks and replicating only those pictures which had the most number of saves rather than likes.

One mistake I see many people make is focusing only on gaining followers instead of creating content worth following. Instagram's algorithm rewards posts that generate saves, shares, and meaningful watch time - not just likes. Pick one clear niche, post consistently, use Reels to reach new audiences, and reply to every comment to build relationships. A smaller audience that genuinely engages with your content is far more valuable than thousands of inactive followers.

Post at least one really good reel with a good hook on it each day.

Add 20 to 50 stories a day if you can. Add a lot of stories.

Reply to every comment made on your reels and stories. Try to ask questions and keep the conversation going. Try to reply within the first hour if you can.

Engage with pages like yours. Engage with the creator and the people replying to the creator. Spend an hour or two a day engaging.

Cross-promote your IG on other platforms you use.

Focus on this for a year and you'll definitely see growth.

Just make sure you have your niche and audience down. You should have that before you create on IG, otherwise you're promoting in the dark with no real strategy.

A lot of good tips already in this thread; I'll add a few things that don't get mentioned as often:

Carousels are underrated for growth. They tend to get more saves and longer watch time than single images because people swipe through, and Instagram's algorithm weighs "time spent" heavily. A well-structured 6-8-slide carousel (problem → tips → CTA) often outperforms a single photo or even a Reel in terms of saves.

Instagram search is basically SEO now. Your captions, alt text, and even on-screen text in Reels get indexed for search. If people in your niche search things like "budget travel tips" or "home workout ideas," having those exact phrases naturally in your caption/alt text helps you show up there — separate from the algorithm's "for you" distribution entirely.

Collabs > cold outreach. Using the "Collab" post feature with even a small creator in your niche exposes you to their whole audience at once, and it counts as a joint post for both accounts (not just a shoutout). Way more efficient than DMing people asking for shares.

Don't rely on IG alone for discovery. A lot of steady growers are driving traffic in from outside, Pinterest, YouTube Shorts, or even a niche blog/SEO content, rather than hoping the IG algorithm surfaces them. External traffic that converts to a follow is often higher-intent than someone who just scrolled past a Reel.

What worked best for me was focusing more on consistency and actual engagement instead of just trying to get followers quickly. I started posting Reels regularly, using a few relevant hashtags, and spending some time commenting on accounts in the same niche. That brought much better results than randomly following people.

I also noticed that Stories helped keep the followers I already had engaged. It took some time, but the growth became much more consistent once I stopped looking for shortcuts and focused on posting useful content regularly.
