Come across some web hosting sites and viewing some offers that called Wordpress hosting? what is it? is it a marketing trick to attract users?

WordPress-specific hosts are basically charging a premium for support. If something goes wrong with your site, they will fix. Also, they will help optimize your site for traffic...yet many of them charge based on the number of visitors you receive.

Frankly, if you are comfortable with WordPress, WordPress-specific hosts offer little value and lots of limitations. For example, you can only install plugins that they approve.

But if you find WordPress intimidating or you simply don't have the time to deal with issues like maintenance, security and optimization...a WordPress host might be a great value and time saver.

Just because you have a Wordpress Site, does not mean you need "Wordpress Hosting"

On a technical level I suspect there is little to no difference.. I reckon in most cases they probably switch from suPHP to FCGI... May be if you are lucky some other server options are set such as xcache, mod_deflate and mpm event - as that is what I would do optimize server performance for wordpress...

Its weird how these web hosts say they are wordpress optimized but do nothing to explain what that exactly is.... Suffice to say to change the server to the options I described costs nothing so its beyond me why they charge so much more for supposed wordpress optimized?
