If you wanted to add a forum to your Wordpress site, and make it look and work like your WordPress blog, what forum software would you choose?

Do you have any recommendations?

Hello, If you are wanting to keep your WordPress install for your site and just add a forum to it then the easiest way would be to use bbPress. That's the WordPress created plugin for adding a forum to your site.

There's also BuddyPress, which is also a good one to use.

They have some similarities but a few differences. You can search Google for "bbpress buddypress compare" and you'll find some nice articles that outline the differences.

Good luck with your site! :)

There is many ways to ad a forum to your wordpress website. I prefer bbPress. It is one of the top WordPress forum plugin . It adds several options to your dashboard for creating and managing a forum. It includes several widgets. That is a good idea.

I tried using those plugins and quite frankly, I don't like the way they look. Also, they change your whole blog. I wanted to add a forum (that looks like a forum) to a WP blog that still looks like a blog and I was disappointed. Maybe someone can inform me on the way to have both in one WP install.

However, my fix and recommendation would be to link to another subfolder with a real forum installed there.

I am getting confused between two points that you wanted in your post

I wanted to add a forum (that looks like a forum) to a WP blog that still looks like a blog.
if you want it looks like or same your blog theme, try BuddyPress or BBpress like @ulterios suggested

However, my fix and recommendation would be to link to another subfolder with a real forum installed there
Some forum softwares can help you with IPB, vBulletin, Phbbb or wordlab forum cms.

If you decide to create a forum based on the WordPress CMS, the accommodation options are not limited solely superstructure bbPress. In your situation, there are a number of themes and useful plugins that will transform your ordinary website into a platform for discussion and communication between users. In this post we will discuss how to use the plugins and turn the site into a forum.
Presented below list includes only ready themes and plugins without any "embedded" solutions or transition options with ready PHP-forums. I suggest you use only fully working solution based on finishing the installation of the WordPress.

1. WP Symposium - a free plugin for full functionality of the forum developed a provider of social networking.

2. bbPress - the most popular plugin for creating a forum based on WordPress. It automates the creation of forums based on your site, and the setting of such a forum.

3. CM Answers allows you to create a forum based on your site. With this plugin style Stack Overflow with ratings for the forum of questions and answers, you can install on your website.

4. Ans Press - plugin for creating discussion boards, and the answers and questions, in many respects similar to CM Answers.

5. Theme ForumEngine from ThemeForest - an integrated approach to the theme for the forum, which lets you easily create a modern forum based on the popular CMS. Topic has options such as infinite scrolling, login in using Facebook or Twitter, setting permissions, adding stations to favorites, and subscribe to the posts.

Best regards,
