Social Network Marketing vs. Forum Marketing

I would like to know your thoughts on Social Network Marketing and Forum Marketing
Both have have pros and cons and I want to know differences between the two
which is better to get traffic and promote your website or brand

Social media marketing and forum marketing, both have different marketing strategy in the sense that forums works for discussion for any particular topic and social media networks represents brand and business of an organisation or company by creating company page on linkedin, facebook fan page, Google+ business page etc. Both the platforms are good to generate traffic for website.
