Paid Facebook Advertising, is it worth the hype?

I am currently managing two Facebook pages for small local businesses, so what I do want to ask you if paid ads are worth the money,
do they really bring more local traffic to the page, as a heard that I can add the specific areas to which to be advertised?

Share some suggestions, for what period of time is best to let my paid posts and ads, one or two weeks, does it really matter if the reach is still the same?

Facebook advertising is good for brand awareness and remarketing. If you need immediate sales, go with Google adwords or bing ads.

I spent more with Facebook ads, I don't see any good results when running ad campaigns.
I would recommend advertising on forums or blogs and don't forget to choose some are related to your niche.
