It is quite hard to get accepted as the review is done manually.
Here are the requirements I know:

• The content of your site should be well-written and include at least hundreds of posts
• The content should be reliable and you should write at least one post per day
• The website should have an impressive look and fell
• Your site should be related to news
• You need to have a lot of traffic

You get many benefits from being part of Google News: you get a lot of traffic directly from Google News, and you get more traffic from Google search engine as such website is highly respected by Google.
