Are there any providers of free SSL certificates?

Does it include *.domain.com certificates as well?

It is more for security rather than authentication, and avoiding invalid certificate errors.

I found good providers but before I make decision I want to find a great deal.

They pretty much all do now, as it's a must for every website. Even Hostgator includes free SSL for every site as part of it's most basic package.

There's nothing special about webhostingfix and the fact that they hide their Whois makes them too shady to trust as a hosting company. Also, their own SSL failed, so what does that tell you? Avoid them.

Any LEGIT hosting company will give you FREE SSL. Easy peasy.

Almost all hosts now provide free ssl. No need to buy one unless you need an advanced cert to certify the actual business etc. Buying one just for a domain is a total waste of money these days.

Free SSL certificate providers and premium SSL certificates issued by Certificate Authorities are available to website owners and developers (CAs). Free SSL certificates, as the name implies, do not require payment, and webmasters are free to use them as much as they wish.

Letsencrypt has helped to revolutionize how hosting is done. Now that SSL Certificates are important to the clients ability to be included in the search engines Free SSL Certs have become the new marketing tool for sales. 15 Years ago it was Unlimited hosting, than failover hosting and cloud hosting and now we have free SSL Certs. This was a great move for the industry though since the shear number of websites that were not secure was allowing for data to be stolen without much effort from the hackers. Hosting continues to evolve on its own and when it is forced by search engine changes. These all help to create new revenue streams for early adopters of these new changes. Sit idle and you fall behind.
