There are many different ways to categorize digital marketing, but one way to do it is by the type of tactics being used:

-Search engine optimization (SEO)
-Search engine marketing (SEM)
-Web design and development
-Content marketing
-Social media marketing
-Email marketing

Digital marketing can be categorized by the type of tactics used, or by the stage of the customer's journey.

Tactically, digital marketing can be separated into internet marketing, email marketing, social media marketing, and content marketing. Internet marketing covers all channels that are online - search engines, websites, social media networks, etc. Email marketing is simply sending promotional emails to a list of customers. Social media marketing is using social networks to spread your message. And content marketing is creating and sharing valuable content with your target audience in order to attract them to your product or service.

Another way to look at it is by the stage of the customer's journey: awareness, consideration, decision, and loyalty/retention.

When it comes to categorizing digital marketing, one of the most popular ways to do it is by dividing it into three core categories: paid, earned, and owned media.

Paid media consists of all forms of advertising that a company pays for, including traditional advertising mediums like TV, radio, and print ads, as well as newer forms of paid advertising like search engine marketing (SEM) and social media advertising. Earned media refers to any unpaid form of marketing or publicity a company receives, such as word-of-mouth endorsements or articles about the company that are published online or in news outlets. Owned media is the term used for all content a company creates itself - including websites, blog posts, social media etc.

If you are just beginning to gain knowledge about digital marketing then google certificate courses and industry based case studies will help.
If you are beginning with your career in the same then joining a startup where you get to learn more, handle more responsibilities, and better experience will do the best for you.
