Any thoughts on guest post platforms with tons of random topics?

Hey all,

Bit of a niche question, but I figured this would be the right place. I've come across a site that accepts guest posts across all sorts, everything from finance and marketing, to art and wellness. Pretty wide net. On paper, it sounds good if you're trying to get content out there, but I’m a bit sceptical about how useful it is from an SEO standpoint.

The whole thing feels a bit scattergun, like there’s no real editorial structure, and the articles seem to be mostly submitted by external contributors. That said, it’s well indexed and regularly updated.

Has anyone here tried using that type of general-purpose content platform for backlinks or exposure?
Did it actually help, or is it just noise for Google at this point?

Would be great to hear what you lot think, especially if you've got any red flags you look out for before posting somewhere. Cheers.

I’ve used sites like that before, and honestly, results are mixed. If the site has a broad niche, a lot of the backlinks end up being low relevance, which means Google might not give them much weight. Also, if most content is from guest contributors and not really curated, it can slip into “content farm” territory — which is a red flag for long-term SEO value.

That said, if the site has solid authority, clean backlinks, and your article is well-written and relevant to your niche, it could still give you a small boost and some referral traffic. I just wouldn’t rely on it as a main link-building strategy. For SEO, I’d focus on getting links from sites closely related to your industry.

I think if you are doing paid guest posts then it should be on niche relevant sites. other than that what's the point of guest posting if it is on general site? you can always create free backlinks if you want it on general sites.
