Is Google AdSense Still Worth It in 2026 for Small Websites?

I wanted to start a discussion about Google AdSense and whether it’s still a good monetization option for small and medium-sized websites in 2026.

Many website owners are now focusing on affiliate marketing, sponsored content, and direct ads because AdSense CPC and RPM rates seem to fluctuate a lot depending on traffic source and niche.

I currently run a food-related website and noticed that SEO traffic from Google still performs much better than social traffic for AdSense earnings. However, getting approved and maintaining good earnings has become more competitive compared to previous years.

Some things I’ve learned:

• High-quality original content matters more than ever
• Website speed and mobile optimization affect engagement
• Organic SEO traffic converts better for ad revenue
• Low-quality AI-generated content struggles to rank long term
• Niches like finance, tech, and insurance still have higher CPC

For anyone starting out, I think combining AdSense with affiliate offers works much better than relying only on display ads.

I agree. AdSense is still useful in 2026, but I’d treat it as one part of the monetization strategy rather than the main revenue source. For small sites, combining SEO traffic + affiliate offers + AdSense can be much more effective than relying on ads alone.

Worth adding that on a small site those two can work against each other. Display units sitting around the same content that carries your affiliate links pull clicks away from the link paying several times more, and the AdSense report still looks fine because it only ever shows what it earned, never what it cost you somewhere else.

On a food site I would pull the page level report first and see where the money actually comes from. It is usually a handful of pages, and those are the ones I would test removing ads from for a month rather than adding more units to. Ad density also feeds back into layout shift and load time, which affects the organic traffic that is doing the earning in the first place.

Google AdSense is still worth it for small websites only as an easy entry point, but it will not generate high income without significant traffic.
