I am not an expert in claude, but its a great ai tool for developers

Most of that burn is not the model, it is the context being resent. Every turn in a long session ships the whole conversation again, so a thread that starts cheap is expensive by message thirty even if your own prompts stay short.

Two things cut it a lot. Start a fresh session per task instead of one running chat, and paste the single function you are working on rather than the whole file. Pushing the mechanical work like renames and boilerplate to a smaller model helps as well.

I've been using Claude on and off, and it's been quite good for coding tasks. I especially like it for explaining complex code, brainstorming solutions, and working through large codebases. It's not perfect, but it's definitely worth trying alongside other AI tools to see which one fits your workflow best.
