Hi everyone,

Social media platforms continue to evolve, and many of the strategies that worked a few years ago seem less effective today. With increasing competition and changing algorithms, growing an account has become more challenging for creators, businesses, and marketers.

I've been testing different approaches, including:

  • Consistent content creation
  • Short-form video content
  • Audience engagement
  • Niche targeting
  • Cross-platform promotion
  • Social media growth tools
Some methods generate quick results, while others appear to be more sustainable in the long run.

I'm curious to hear from others:

  1. What strategy is currently working best for you?
  2. Are hashtags still important?
  3. How much of your growth comes from Reels or short videos?
  4. What mistakes should new creators avoid?
  5. Which tools or resources have been most useful?
Looking forward to learning from the community and hearing different perspectives on social media growth in 2026.

1. I treat each social media profile as if it's my only platform. I keep content native, build a community of loyal followers, engage daily, consistently post multiple times a day, and utilize all the features of the platform.

2. Hashtags are like vanity metrics. Anymore, they're just for show. Do you ever search by hashtags? I never do and really never did back when they were widely used. It's a trend that never took off which is why platforms are trying to shy away from them.

3. Most growth is coming from short-form video content. I say triple down on reels and shorts.

4. Mistakes to avoid:
  • Giving up too easily
  • Not being patient
  • Not learning from your failures
  • Not being consistent
  • Not focusing on engagement
  • Not branding yourself online
  • Not getting out of your safety bubble and trying new things
  • Not being willing to learn something new every day

5. I use mainly built-in tools on the platform. I do enjoy Buffer for scheduling, Tick Tick for organizing my daily to-dos, and native apps on my phone to quickly be able to do something.

In 2026, consistency and authenticity are more important than ever. The accounts growing the fastest are not necessarily posting the most content, but the ones creating valuable content that keeps people engaged.

A strategy that works well is focusing on one niche, posting consistently, using short-form video, and actively interacting with your audience through comments and messages. Building a community around your content creates stronger long-term growth than simply chasing viral posts.

I also think analyzing your best-performing content and creating more of what your audience already enjoys is one of the smartest ways to grow on social media today.

Great points! I think the best strategy today is focusing on creating valuable content that solves a problem or connects with the audience. Short videos are still very powerful, but consistency and understanding your audience matter more than just posting often. New creators should focus on building trust instead of only chasing quick growth.

The most effective social media growth strategy in 2026 is creating consistent, audience-focused content combined with short-form videos, community engagement, and data-driven optimization. Brands that prioritize authenticity, personalization, and platform-specific content are achieving stronger reach and long-term growth.
