ccTLD or new gTLD for long-term value?

.de passing 18 million registrations shows that some mature ccTLDs still have strong trust.

For webmasters and investors, would you rather hold a strong keyword in a local ccTLD or the same keyword in a newer gTLD?

Which one has better long-term value?

For long-term value, I'd generally favor a premium keyword in a mature ccTLD over the same keyword in a newer gTLD, provided the target market aligns with that country.

Yes, the country fit is the important part. A premium keyword in a mature ccTLD works best when real local businesses already trust and use that extension.

Without that local buyer pool, even a good keyword can sit for a long time.

A domain is not valuable only because the keyword is strong, it also depends on who is actually willing to buy and develop it. A good .de, .nl, .fr, etc. keyword can have real demand because businesses in that market already understand the extension. With newer gTLDs, I see more potential for branding, but the resale market is still much less predictable. I would rather own a strong keyword in a trusted ccTLD with proven usage than gamble on a new extension unless the gTLD has a very specific niche and clear audience.

I think trust is more important than the extension itself. A good website on a well-known ccTLD can perform better than a weak site on a newer gTLD.

It depends on the goal. For businesses targeting a specific country, a strong keyword in a trusted ccTLD often has greater value because of user recognition and local credibility.
