How important is response time for online services today?

Hello everyone,

Running an online exchange service, we've noticed that users often expect answers much faster than they did a few years ago.

Even when a request is not urgent, many people seem to prefer getting a quick confirmation or update rather than waiting for a detailed response later.

It feels like response time has become an important part of the overall customer experience for many online businesses.

How are you handling this in your own projects?

For an exchange service I would guess most of those fast replies are people checking their money is not lost, not people who need an answer. Those two need different fixes. Anything that shows transaction state without a human being involved takes a lot of load off the queue, and it works at 3am.

Where speed does matter, an acknowledgement only helps if it says what happens next and roughly when. A reply that just confirms receipt buys almost nothing, people write again anyway. Are your fast requests mostly status checks, or actual problems?
