Keep it brief - 65 to 69 characters - 65 is best to avoid the words towards the end of your title getting cut off on Google e.g. you get a word that looks like this at the end: wor ...

Thank you

Google typically displays the first 50-60 characters of a title tag, so we should use this limit.

Title should be 60 to 70 characters. Google shows exactly 65 characters only.

As per Google Webmaster Guidelines, a standard Meta Title length should be within 60-65 characters. Anything more or less will not get cached and it can hamper the Page rankings of a website .

K.I.S.S. (Keep It Short & Simple)

The valid length accepted by search engines is 60 characters. While you can keep it not short then 50 characters & not more then 60 characters.

Actually there is no definite standards but rather suggestions.
Of course you may have Title and Description of your site for SEO as long as you want,
AMRAY Directory does it for years and years and as far as SERP concerns, we have it
on page #1 in G. for the most popular terms like:
free directories
best free web directories
web directories

and
strongest web directories on page #2

So, as you can see, number of characters has no effect on where G. places sites in SERP

The title should ideally be less than 64 characters in length.

OK... but what will happen if I have title that holds 90 characters?
Is Google going to ban my site or do something even worse than that...
thrown spaghetti at me (without plate of course) or push me in cold water

and what if I use 150 characters?
Oh my God!!!
I don't want even think about what Google is going to do to me...
that is of course beside kissing my ass and then placing my site in top 10 in SERP
using my 150 characters Title.

If you use 90 characters or 150 characters then it's not problem and Google will not ban your site but it's not good or not standard for what Google want. Google only show limit number of characters, if you using long title, it will be replace by "..." in search results. Thus it's not necessary to use long title or meta description.

Hope it's clear to you! :smart:

So, then what is all that BS all over this thread about?
If I can use any amount of characters I feel appropriate for my Title, as you just said,
then why not just say that there is NO LIMIT?

but it's not good or not standard for what Google want.
Oops, almost forgot about what Master wants.

Thus it's not necessary to use long title or meta description.
Oh yes it is necessary.
We're talking in here about advancing our sites using keywords and key phrases
that hopefully will put us at the top of eat or be eaten SERP food chain whereas
60 characters won't do a s*** for your site.

Hope it's clear to you!
I don't think so.
Your reply confused me even more.
You need to come up with more imaginative arguments if you wanna to make point.

The title tag should be under 70 characters, where we should describe our website within 70 characters.
