and SEO is needed for blogging or other methods?
First you need to understand in the blogging world, to make bank, you need to be 110% white hat. No buying links! Make sure you are an authority in what you will be blogging about. Set 2 hours aside everyday to work on your blog (I just started my second blog). The first blog I had used to do great before 2012. I knew minimal about SEO and the site has a ton of thin content, but I thought we could just keep doing the bare minimum and keep banking. Then 2012 came with the slap. We were dropped from the first page and a lot of our traffic came from FB so they did an update around the same time that completely killed the sites traffic. Now it gets about 100 visits a day sometime up to 400 a day. Adsense checks still roll in, but it sucks!

Really investigate on-site SEO. Thats all you really need to worry about in the beginning. Push out a piece of content everyday that is optimized to the high heavens.

Then get on as many social networks as you can. I hire VA's to setup all of my social networks. For instance I hired a Twitter manager about a month ago. I had 6,000 followers. I pay her $43 a month to manage my Twitter. Now I have 11k followers and climbing. @ericplotz1 Real targeted followers. In fact I already received a web design job from one of my new followers. It's no small job either and Im getting a rev share of the network ;) From a $43 a month investment. In this world, true, it takes money to make money, BUT in the internet world that money is incredibly low compared to a brick and mortar.

So anyway, after that the work is really done for you.

YOu really need to focus on the sharing of your content. Does the site get people to share your content? Thats your main focus OVERALL. Get your content shared. Blast it everywhere! Be an authority.

How and what you sell for rev on the site is up to you. There's tons of ways to monetize a blog.

- CPA (my favorite)
- PPC
- Affiliate commissions

If you follow this procedure for 6 months you will bank as long as your keyword choices are wise.

HEre's an overview steps you should follow:

- Choose a Keyword
- Produce SEO content
- JOin ALL social networks
- Share a lot!

If you stay focused its really that simple. Of course there are things that come along, like needing to engage with your audience to retain them as fans.

You take it this far, and the rest will present itself. PROMISE!

Awesome post! It's the first time I've ever heard about CPA, would you tell me what it is and how to apply it for my blog?

CPA = Cost Per action

An action could be many things, but mostly it'll be signups and conversions.

Email submits are the easiest way to get paid. It where you get $$ for someone simply submitting their email address. We had a CPA offer from Dunkin Donuts a few years ago that made us $10,000 in one day and adsense shut us down because they thought it was fraudulent.

Here are a few of the networks I have dealt with

Peerfly
CPA Dna
Integrate
Center Point Tracking
Panthera Interactive
Escalate Network

Getting accepted is a little tough. You need traffic to get accepted to a CPA network.

Cheers

****EDIT: I use CPA offers in banners on my website or hyper linked generic text.

BTW: Adsense had nothing to do with the CPA offer.

Blogging is really fun but getting traffic can be tough and it takes time. Forget about CPA when you're just starting your blog from scratch, the networks won't approve you. If I was going to start from scratch, this is what I would do:

I would create a new facebook profile, group and fan page. Twitter, tumblr and google+ accounts for the blog.

To promote facebook I would find someone who's popular and always updating their blog then go to his/her latest facebook post that got many likes and send everyone a friend request. Keep it to 20 friend requests per day maximum when you're still new on facebook to avoid getting banned. Sometimes skip 2 to 3 days without sending friend requests just to stay on the safe side.

I will then add everyone who accepts my friend request to the group I created. Then post a link to my fan page on my profile and group once or twice every week. The aim is to keep adding new people to the group and profile everyday.

Twitter and google+ are really easy. You just find someone who's popular then follow everyone who's following them, follow/add 200 people everyday. No need to worry about getting banned on these 2 networks.

For tumblr I would do a search for my keywords then find popular posts. Once I found a good popular post that is related to my blog I will follow everyone who liked and reblogged the post, 200 per day will be fine.

Everyone you follow on google+, tumblr and twitter will not follow back but most people will, just keep going it's not going to be easy. There's a lot of tools you can use to unfollow those who don't follow back, really easy.

Now, to keep them engaged, you'll need to have fresh content on a daily bases. If you're just starting out I would recommend at least 2 posts per day so that you can be able to reach people in different time zones, post more content if you can. Then once you have a good following you can keep it to just 1 post per day or share 1 new post in the morning and one old post later.

Make it easy for your blog readers to be able to share your content by adding sharing buttons below each post. Give them many options to comment like adding facebook comments for instance. Join forums in your niche and offer value then add your blog url in the signature. Join facebook, linkedin and skype groups then join the discussions and post your blog url once in a while.

Just make sure your blog has a lot of content. Mix up your content with some related news (not general news), entertainment, reviews (amazon products for affiliate commissions), resources, videos etc. so that you don't run out of ideas and to keep your blog entertaining instead of having tutorials only.

For monetization, I would say start by collecting emails then the rest will follow. Put email optin forms on the sidebar and below each blog post. Once you have an email list you can promote affiliate products, your own products or whatever you prefer.

This will help you make money even if you don't have a lot of traffic because if you're going to rely on advertising then you'll need a lot of traffic.

To get more traffic you can do some guest blogging, find blogs in your niche that allow guest posting. You can even contact someone who hasn't updated their popular blog in a while and give them an article in exchange for a link to your blog.

Buy some expired domains and build a private blog network then use this private network to link to your blog. This will help you get strong backlinks and improve your search engine traffic. I can go on the whole day, but that is blogging in a nutshell :)
