Some said that "You only need SEO if you have a website that you want people to find it via search engines." so startups will need it?
Different people have different interpretations, and some aslo will tell you that many startups should not pay a lot of attention to SEO, because they're not doing something people search for. is it correct?

It's simple, if you have a website then you need to use some form/s of SEO! At some point you will want people to find the website, for whatever your particular reason is. That said, if you have a website then you should figure SEO into it as a whole from the beginning.

You don't want to one day reach the point that you want people to find you in a search engine, and they can't! Start doing/practicing/etc. SEO right from the beginning of having a website, even if you don't think you will need the search traffic now. One day you might and that's not the time to think about SEO!

Good Luck. :)

Hi,

I would say startups are especially the ones who need SEO because they'll need to establish themselves in a market where other competitors are already present (even these latter are investing in SEO so as to keep their rankings in the search results).

So generally speaking, everyone who offers some kind of service or product and relies on the web to get leads and customers will need to invest in SEO. Of course it's not the only source of traffic out there, it's advised to diversify your sources of traffic: SEO, social media, PPC,.....and not rely only on 1 source.

All the best!

What do you mean by "startups"?

I ask this because there are new websites which could be considered a start up. And there are things like Kick Starter campaigns for new project start ups.

You ask if its correct whether new start ups should not pay attention to SEO.

Well I think that's just a ridiculous thing to say and believe.

Every website needs SEO at some point.

If you want your new website start up to be successful you will need and have to do or have at least 1 of these 3 things.

  • SEO (Both on-page and off-page) if you want your site to actually rank high for things.
  • Luck (Sometimes sites rank high straight away, it's rare and harder these days but it does happen).
  • Advertise (So people can actually know about it and get traffic to the site).
So in answer, no, it is not correct to say and believe that you should ignore the SEO of your start up site.

That's just ignorant and arrogant to think that your site would survive or even get anywhere with it or anyone of the 3 bulleted things.

Absolutely, even more than other businesses.

Online is probably going to be their greatest source of customers and allow them to buld a following and a brand. Having a good presence on search engines is vital for that.

SEO is the need of each and every business whether start up or established business as without SEO the website is useless. As SEO takes time the reason why to generate quick leads start ups can take the advantage of PPC. This can also give you a quick overview of your business and through analytics you can find the keywords and phrases which people are searching relevant to your business and later you can use this data in SEO.

As per my knowledge Start-ups needs SEO because of brand awareness and drive traffic to your website. If someone search your brand on the search engine and nothing will come, then user will think twice to come your website because now in these days everyone want to shop from safe & reputed websites. ORM is a part of search engine optimization, you can also do that. It will create reputation of your brand reputation on the web.

Start ups are the company who hire seo in the first place .Not all people are skilled in social media marketing.Requires a lot of brainstorming and constant ideas on how to make the website more visible on the google search pages .Even the big and reputed company have seo's. I once checked the backlink of a very reputed IT firm they had over 1 lakh backlinks .Imagine the work done behind generating those backlinks. Whenever you start a business the motive and the drive behind is money at the end of the day and you can only make money when you get discovered on the internet.Billions of people use google for their need and the only things which clicks their mind it internet -> google , even if it just for placing a pizza order you search google for the nearest place around you. Its all about visibility and seo job is to do just that. If you take your initial steps carefully you can do great in business through social media marketing. Not all people are skilled in social media marketing.Thats where seo's comes into picture, they will do the work for you but it requires time and patience.

I think it depends on the business. If the business is one that will rely heavily on drawing in clients from the internet and stuff, then I'd say yeah. If It's a smaller business, where a majority of the customer base relies on word-of-mouth, I wouldn't say that a website is not necessary. At most, they'd just need social media. Smaller companies are just likely to do that themselves.

Yes, start-ups need SEO to get website promotion and also to get website traffic. But for this you will have to do lots of hard work for the visibility of your website in search engines.
You will have to do effective SEO of your website:
- First do on page SEO
- Then off page SEO by using useful content marketing techniques like Blog posting,Article submission.
You can also use social media for product promotion and also to get target customers.

A startup can do both SEO and SEM. SEM will give fast traffic for the startup but will cost many in ads. But in parallel, can do SEO to get long term traffic. Because SEO need time to get results, especially in competitive markets. But if the startup want to have a presence in internet, yes SEO is a must to do.
