Yes, forum is really nice for the website visibility because from the forum posting we can get do-follow back links and traffic as well, that is why it is important.

Forum profile links are good but i think almost all forums provides No Follow backlink
but forums does not allows you to do spamming before posting your link you must be a daily visitor or active user so you must be careful about that!

I agree with you and in my point of view, forum profile links are not worth at this time and it was an old SEO technique that we should not apply or waste of time for this technique any more.
