In general, it is a Business Management tool. I'd also add that ERPs combine various types of toolkits to manage business processes: Inventory, Financial, Customer Relationship (CRM), Human Resource (HRM), Supply Chain (SCM), Compliance, Customization and Integration Monitoring, Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, IT Optimization, Automated Reporting system. And since that ecosystem is pretty complex, many businesses are developing their own personal ERPs.
