I have a couple of .com domain names for which I was keen on developing travel related sites. Travel sites have exploded across the interweb, so not sure how well they will do. Is global-focus the trend, or hyperlocal?

It depends on the market size of the area. Do a lot of people travel to that area? Are they looking for things to do? etc...

What will make your travel site better than all the rest?

Can you create better content than all the sites currently on page one of the search engines?

Can you tie a youtube channel into it? In other words, can you personally film the areas you are talking about? AKA... make it personal. Get people to know, like and TRUST you.

The web is filled with almost all type of segments. That shouldn't let you stop exploring your own niche. Focus a niche with your travel site and seo/advertisement is the key to success.

That third point you make really helps! The region is the hottest destination this side of the world today. Will need to make the content as accurate and reliable as possible. Thanks!

That's insightful. When we think of a travel site, the tendency is go broad, assuming it's better to reach a wide variety of interests. But then, so are all the other websites today. So niche makes sense.
