What are Hreflang Tags in Google webmaster tool?

Hi there,

I checked my Google webmaster tool at International Targeting tab

something showing like this for my site

Your site has no hreflang tags.
Google uses hreflang tags to match the user's language preference to the right variation of your pages.

What are hreflang tags? benefits from these tags and how to put it on my site?

Hreflang tag is option where we show to Google robots in which language is content written.
Hreflang tag can be also used for creating sitemaps for markup pages which are multilingual.
