"Successful" can be quantified many ways.
Do you want to make money directly?
Have lots of traffic?

- Adopt latest technologies
- Implement strong fundamentals
- Optimize your website with proper heading tags, p tags, meta tags and alt tags etc.,
- Create a blog and post regularly updates
- Create local activities in your region and publish your websites in those occasions.

I would work on making it responsive, yet make the guest feel welcome to the website. Don't throw a bunch of crazy colors around like some beginner web developer. Try and make it subtle, and get the idea across, but don't push the person away. Draw them in.
