what do you think about this, if a person A has got a product and a person B has got a list and they do a joint venture (JV)?
what exactly is it called?

Joint Venture! :)

It will work as long as the product is good. I know a lot of people who started creating a product and recruited a few affiliates by giving away 100% of their profit!

You might want to ask why should you do that?

1.) Once people buys your product, you already have their email so you can promote another offer to make money.
2.) Not much affiliate will be attracted to promote for a product, most of the product out there are given away with 100% commission.

Just think about it, If you spend $500 to create and promote a quality product that is going to be sold at $17 and $34 as an upsell. (sales pages , sales copy , product , promotion)

Since you're giving away 100% profit on front end and 50% on the upsell , a lot of affiliates hop on board and during the launch week you manage to sell 1,000 copies.

That means you manage to collect 1,000 buyers list that you can send offers on the succeeding months. Also let's assume that 10% (100 people) availed the upsell that means

$34 x 100 = $3,400 / 2 (since 50% is given away to the affiliate) = you've earned $1700 on your launch.

and you've help your affiliates make a total of ($17,000 on the front End + $1,700 Upsells = $18,700) that's a lot of money so the next time youu launch a product, affiliates will flood your gate to promote for it.

Yes JV can take many different forms. In your specific scenario is about one person having a great product and the other having a good list. I have heard of JVs where the tasks are separated into little segments, even to "Layout of sales page" ,"Creation of infographics" and Copywriting

It's called working smarter, not harder via leveraging each others resources.
