Actually increasing page speed doesn't affect search rankings. But indirectly it will effect because if page speed is very low definitely bounce rate will increase. So we can conclude that improving page speed is important for better rankings.

Google has stated time and time again that a fast site helps you rank higher. Release of "2019 Speed Update" Google made it clear that slow loading sites are no longer going to be able to bug users simply because they are going to rank better faster.

Indirectly affect on ranking

Could any one tell me that the website speed impacted search ranking? is it true? As sites with more images do load more slowly but they are getting good rankings. why?

Your comments would be appreciated!
When users come to your website and it takes so much time to load the page then users will switch to another website. Due to increased dwell time, the bounce rate of your website will be increased. Also, it affects the user experience. so with the technical SEO checklist, your website must be load in a maximum of 3 sec to attend your users.

The page speed may affect indirectly your website ranking. As per the Technical SEO checklist, your website must be loaded within 2 seconds. If not then it will affect user experience. As more dwell time means more bounce rate. and more bounce rate means poor user experience. And Google doesn't rank those websites which don't offer good user experience.

There are many factors that effect loading speed, such as: user's internet, user's device... this affect user's experience when reading on your site, so as long as it's not too slow, it's okay.
Focus on bringing the best to your users and you'll get high ranking on SERP.
Thank you!
