Why doesn't Link:(websiteurl) show what backlinks you have?

I remember a long time ago you used to be able to use this to see a sampling of links that Google had indexed for your website. Similar to site : (websiteurl) ... does this not work anymore?

You are on the right track, but they did not disable it. The operator still works. They never showed much data with it, and have been decreasing what they show.

Some webmasters didn't use this command any more instead they are using SEO tools like ahref or semrush to check backlinks from a website.

According to me, site : (websiteurl) is still working as well. why not?
