Authority of .US Domain Names

Hi,
What is the authority of a .US domain name? I'm planning to get one. How does this TLD affect my search rankings in the long run? I'm currently not able to take other TLDs.

One more question: My recent domain name seems to be blacklisted by Google, since I use a 301 (permanent redirect), does the spam links pass through? Any risks if I do the redirect?

The .us domain extension could affect search ranking in the sense that searches outside of the United States would be harder to beat. Also, the .us could be difficult for people to remember - unless the domain extension part is emphasized. Anyway, besides those problems, I cannot see why the .us could not be an authority website, at least for the United States. In fact, inside the US, maybe it even has an advantage. How big do you guys/gals thing the advantage is?
