Social media growth is getting harder, or are we missing something?

I feel like growing a page today isn’t as easy as it used to be. Even if the content is good, it doesn’t always reach people without some extra push or strategy behind it.
Some say it’s all about consistency and understanding your audience, while others think distribution and initial engagement matter more than anything.

Do you think growth depends more on content, consistency, or getting early reach?

What most don't realize is that you have to change your strategy.

Some years back, you could post external links and get traffic to your website. Nowadays, algorithms will give you zero views for most external links.

I always suggest the 99/1 strategy for social.

99% native content and 1% promotional content.

It's supposed to be more of a joke than a strategy. Really though, try to treat social media as if it is your only online gig. Now, don't make it your only online gig because it's rented space and you can lose it anytime.

But try to treat it like it's your only thing. That means everything you post is meant to grow your following and keep people on your page. Put your link in your bio. They're figure out your website eventually. Trust me. The more followers and loyal followers you get, the more you'll be known in your niche.

Post at scale on the social platform - 3 to 8 times a day. Gary Vee is right about posting at scale.

Make sure its trending content formats: engagement questions, reels, images, stories, live streams, etc. Avoid links if you can.

Build a community. Know your audience. I mean get to know them, especially the top fans. Treat them like your closest family. Be nice to everyone even the haters. Help everyone even the noobs that ask the same question over and over again.

Engage more than you post.

Content is king. Engagement is queen, Consistency is the kingdom that holds it all together.

It's hard to go from a link poster on social to a no-link poster but once you do it, and see how fast growth happens, your attitude changes quickly.

That's my advice.

I think social media growth has definitely become harder, but it is not impossible. There is much more content competing for attention now, and algorithms seem to favor watch time, shares, and meaningful engagement over simple likes. Instead of chasing every trend, focusing on a specific niche and building a loyal audience can work better. Consistency, authenticity, and understanding what your audience wants are still the most reliable ways to grow over the long term.

Social media growth definitely feels more challenging than it did a few years ago. Most platforms are more competitive now, and organic reach can be unpredictable. That said, consistent posting, understanding your audience, creating valuable content, and engaging with followers still make a big difference. In many cases, growth isn't necessarily harder—it's just that audiences have more content to choose from, so standing out requires a clearer strategy and stronger content quality.

I think it’s a mix of all three. Good content is what keeps people interested, but consistency helps build an audience over time. Early reach is also important because even great content won’t grow much if nobody sees it. For me, the best approach is to focus on useful content first and then work on distribution and engagement.

Social media growth has definitely become more competitive, but I think the biggest change is that platforms now reward real value, consistency, and engagement more than just posting frequently. Understanding the audience and creating content that solves a problem is still the key.

Engaging with the audience is very critical, giving suggestions, answering their questions, and supporting them in any way are great ways to cement yourself as a trusted brand or service besides just posting your content.

I agree that social media growth has become more competitive, but I don’t think it has to be “hard” if you’re consistent and willing to adapt.

Content is still the foundation, but consistency, engagement, and distribution determine how far that content can travel. Algorithms also seem to respond to audience behavior and emotional connection—whether people watch, comment, share, or come back for more.
Another factor people overlook is time commitment. You can’t expect the same growth from someone posting occasionally as a creator who consistently studies their audience, tests formats, engages with people, and improves their content.
So for me, it’s not content vs. consistency vs. early reach. It’s the combination:
valuable content gets attention, consistency builds trust, and early engagement helps create momentum.
