For me it's not either/or anymore. AI is great for the first draft and for breaking writer's block, but it falls flat on real experience - the little details, opinions, and examples that only come from actually doing the thing. The posts that rank for me are AI-assisted but heavily edited by a human who knows the topic. Pure AI output reads generic and Google seems to sniff that out fast.

Slight disagreement on the sniffing out part. Google's own line is that they judge quality, not how something was produced, and what the spam policies actually target is scaled abuse, volume with no added value.

The real failure mode is duller than detection. Every AI draft is built from the same top ranking pages, so it converges on the same structure and the same points as everyone else's AI draft. You publish a summary of the current top ten, which gives nobody a reason to rank you above them. The edit that fixes it is not making it sound human, it is adding something those ten do not have.
