Why People Prefer .com Domains? Why They Are Attracted ?

I am always a bit confused that why more than 95% people always
prefer a .COM domain. Means whether they are attracted by the .com extension
or if really .com has something good in it. I see many domains with .net .org
etc... They always have a good repute but still whenever I went to buy a domain
my friends always say buy a .com domain.
Are other domains not trustworthy in the Internet World?

.com is the most popular extension and you don't have to push your visitors in remembering this extension while in other domain you need to point out that you domain name is example.net not example.com
