A 3 way link exchange? Do you mean you add 2 links and they only give you one? If so that doesn't make since unless they have high PR or traffic.

Consider 3 sites as Site A, B and C. When we link site A to B, B to C and C to A then it is called as a 3-way link exchange. And it is helpful for getting one-way backlinks to your website which considered good for your websites...

I dont think it has any affects to ranking. It was popular method few years ago but now scene has changed a lot.

I would use the time producing linkable content. and that will hopefully attract links from very high quality sites. I would be playing for the benefits of content and the benefits of links. But that's me in a content mentality.
