When a customer visits a web design with poor design it can be one of reasons that make them leave site without thinking about next steps like buying products or viewing your services?

Or when they really want that product, they will buy it without caring about the design of website.

what do you guys think about that?

A website with the poor design can kill your sales because when a customer visits a website with the poor design he doesn't want to buy a product in that site. The website should always attract the audience and helps to increase your sale you have design the website in that way. Any customer wants trust when he want to buy a product if the site has a poor design he may lose his trust and won't buy the product. So maintain a good design to increase the sale of your product.

Yep indeed I agree poor design does put people off as it conveys a lack of professional standards. A good design can increase your conversions and engagement from users... However at the end of the day its words which sell and not fancy graphics and fonts... Its words which explains and persuades people to part with their cash... So the key here is to use a great design to get people to read/view your content without being distracted...

Design is important but not most important , the key is to make people find your website and visit it , if you have an average design with lots of visitors on it , it is likely to be more beneficial than having a fantastic design without much traffic to it.

I think design can never be taken lightly because it can dampen the interest in your product within seconds....especially if you website still looks like it was created in 1996.

The visitor might want the product at the start. But like every product, there is an inherent risk that deters the purchasing decision. For example, if it is a software product, the visitor might be afraid of malware or viruses. If its a weight loss product, then the visitor might be wary of side effects.

So, if you have a nice design that exhibits professionalism, then it will ease such pre-purchase fears adequately, thereby increasing your conversion ratios.

Furthermore, if your website looks bad and you are using paid traffic, you will end up losing a lot of money and not knowing why.

In my onion, it doesn't kill your sales but it may decrease your conversion rate because a website with a poor user interface, can disappoint the users. If the user did not find any interesting features then they will easily get bored and leaves website within a seconds and chances of increasing your website's bounce rate.

Design is presentation, and presentation is key. That said, it doesn't need to be flashy - but it needs to convey the message you wish to convey, in a good readable format.

It's all about visuals actually. People like when the website is pleasent for the eye, and they are willing to stay there for a longer period of time if they like what they see. Too complex or too small design can effectively kill your sales because people will just stop going on your website and will find other site, that will suit them more.

Sorry for responding so late.

By too complex web design I meant websites that have a lot of content, lots of buttons, photos etc. which make it hard for visitors to easily find what they are looking for. I don't know about you, but when I'm visiting a website and it's hard to find what I came there for, I just leave and go to another website that allows me to quickly find what I need.
And by too small design I meant design that does not look appealing in a way that catches the eye of the customer. Probably should've said 'not complex enough', that would fit better what I had in mind.

Of course we would all agree that design matters for any site, but that is our own opinion. There are also other things that play their part, for instance with mobile design the pageload is the underlying factor for whether a site is successful or not - too many graphics and bells and whistles and the visitor will quickly get bored or frustrated and move on. Its well known that the 3 second rule applies to mobile web design.... any longer and you've lost your visitior.

can a poor web design kill your sales?

Hello acerstoreau,

I think the answer is to your question is yes. Because Web Design is the most important thing, it is the thing which attract people. For an example think that you have a shop with awsome goods, but when some one saw you shop and think it looks like very disgusting place, no one will comes if they don't feel like go in there. No matter if you have the world finest goods. You should attract people with an eye catching design.

Poor website design affect your sales. Website with excellent design (user-friendly) increased the conversion rate as comparison to other poor design websites. There are so many factors with poor design to decrease the conversion rate of your website.

Depends on your product, people would probably buy Apple products on their website even if would have a poor design. But for most business, an appropriate design with proper functionality is key.
