Both are valuable part of SEO strategy. Internal links are links from the content on your websites internal pages while Inbound links are referrals google count each referral as a point in favour of your website.

Both internal and inbound links are important parts of SEO. However, they arent the same and it’s important to understand the difference between them.
1.) Internal links are located within your website and link from one page on your site to another on your site.
2.) An inbound link, or external link, is a link located on another website that points to your web page.

The basic difference between them is where they are residing. Internal links are located on your own website, like those links that take you to another page of your website.

On the other hand, inbound links are those that are located on another website like a link on an article that you have posted in an article posting site (like Ezine).

Both are important. Internal links are necessary to keep Google bot in your website as long as possible. On the other hand, a link placed on an exterior but valuable site, can be a great boon for your website.

Internal links have become increasingly more important with regards to G's fundamental shift with how it understands your website. Hence the use of semantic relationships on keywords when used as part of a silo on your site has great benefits.... So for sure use them and build deeply nested pages... That said inbound links otherwise know as backlinks are the most important as G's algo relating to SERP ranking is primarily based on this... Social signals still doesn't even come close to it... Inbound links counts as votes for your website - and when received from authority sites you get a nice bit of link juice which boosts your rankings and traffic.... The important thing with inbound links these days is to be careful to stay within the radar and to avoid G detecting unnatural link building....

Here is a good article which discusses [URLnf="http://www.microsystools.com/products/website-analyzer/help/website-analyzer-link-juice/"]sculpting link juice[/URLnf] internally within your site so that you give more prominence to them.... It also covers outbound...

Not knowing the exact details of how G's algo works (and who does as its a closely guarded secret even more than coca-cola and kfc and the likes lol)... I suspect that more attribution is given at the top of the page (not menu headers but within the body of the page) than towards the end... but its probably small in either case... I also suspect that outbound links carry more juice but I maybe wrong... common consensus indicates that its the same when searching online... e.g. lets say a page has a score of 20 points and you have 5 do follow links - then each of those links will carry 4 points regardless of internal or outbound... but thats a simple explanation and I suspect the reality is different... But its a good starting point!

In any case I'm sure that if a website has zero outbound links then that will impact your authority/trust scoring - hence in order to get credit rating from G you also need to give credit ratings to other sites by means of backlinks if that makes sense... There is no need to over do outbound links - I only use them with providing more value to readers such as references to an article etc...

I hope that helps ;-)

As compare internal link inbound links are very important for SEO, because Google and other search engines see multiple, relevant inbound links to a page as a sign that the content on that page is useful.
