Learn Google Adwords for local business, where do I need to start?

As on question title mentioned . I want to learn about Google adwords and PPC campaign and how to start them to have successes for local business in my field.
What are some of the best books/courses I should follow or learn from?

First of all, don't even waste your money with Google adwords, the conversion rates are horrible. CTR super terrible. It works for the popular niches, like lawyers, doctors, etc... But if it's something like a small granite shop or something, nothing is as effective as a first page ranking.

Find a list of directory submissions and submit to 100's of directories.

Do some maps citations.

Produce quality content and A1 on-site SEO

Social profiles and shares.

And this is literally all I do to get local clients a first page ranking!

Are you sure this still is effective for rankings and traffic?
I have not done it for a long time since I heard about directory submissions are not worth today

I can promise you this is still working but it also matters on the quality of your submissions. It can't be some spun mixed up mumbo jumbo for your descriptions. Make sure you either manually do them, use an SEO tool your self, or make sure the person you are using is a pro.
